Designing for Simplicity, Delivering Results
Overview
UX-Driven Redesign for a Global Audience
As the UX Designer at Digitalchemy LLC, one of my first projects was to fully redesign an aging BMI tracker app. I collaborated closely with the founder and art director—but owned the full UX process, from defining the vision to delivering polished, dev-ready designs. The goal: modernize the experience for a global user base, with clean visuals and effortless usability.

Making Something New
Redesigning an outdated UI
The startup had a mix of wildly successful apps—and a few that were quietly gathering dust under calm blue skies. One of those was an older BMI tracker with minimal traction and dated UX. The vision? Rebuild it from the ground up for global release across 40+ languages. The task was handed to a new UX Designer: me.
Working directly with the founder and art director, I set out to reimagine the app into something friendlier, modern, and easier to use. I reviewed dozens of user complaints about clunky navigation and uninspired visuals, taking notes to fuel a thoughtful redesign.
⬆️ Above - The original app UI that many users felt was outdated, clunky, and lacked ways to see their progress. My job was to make it simple, sleek—and actually helpful.
Ideation
Getting Intentional Before Getting Visual
Before diving into the redesign, we spent time understanding our users, mapping benefits, and analyzing the competition.
Whiteboard sessions, team brainstorms—and yes, a lot of pizza—fueled early exploration and strategy.
Simple Start
Designing Data That Actually Helps
Tracking your weight starts with the basics: age, height, and weight. Once that’s captured, the real challenge was organizing those values in a way that felt clean, clear, and genuinely useful.
My goal? Make every visual in the app earn its place—and give users exactly what they need, when they need it.
Easy & Helpful
Clarity at a Glance
The final UI was intentionally crafted to be simple, intuitive, and informative. Users can instantly view their BMI—and understand what it means for their health, without digging or guessing.
Custom Iconography
Designed for clarity, crafted with care.
To match the clean, modern redesign, I created a full set of custom icons—built for clarity, consistency, and visual charm throughout the entire app.

Behind the Scenes at a Startup That Cared
Working on Ideal Weight at Digitalchemy—a small but mighty startup in Redmond, WA—was one of those rare projects where thoughtful design met real-world impact. With over 5 million global users and support across 40+ languages, it became a quiet success story powered by a passionate team (and yes, a lot of pizza-fueled brainstorms).
Designing something that helped people feel better in their daily lives? That’s the kind of win that still makes me smile.
